Remi Bader is finally ready to open up about her weight loss journey.
The influencer rose to fame for her “realistic hauls” and as an advocate for body inclusivity on TikTok. But back in September 2023, the 30-year-old shared in a tearful video to her millions of followers that she would no longer speak about her health journey after receiving a “ridiculous amount” of hate about her body. And she kept her word for quite a bit!

Since then, fans noticed that Remi was losing a lot of weight. Take a look at a before and after — here she is at NY Fashion Week in February 2023…

And at the premiere of Wicked in November 2024:

Incredible!
Naturally, people want to know how she achieved the transformation! She’s shown herself putting in the work at the gym in videos on social media here and there! But beyond that, she has remained completely silent on the matter. Remi has not said a word about how she achieved it, leading to a lot of speculation online. Now, she wants to come clean about her weight loss. Yes, she’s finally giving the people what they want and revealing how she did it!
Remi told Self in an interview published on Wednesday that she had a single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy in December 2023. According to the Mayo Clinic, this involves the sleeve gastrectomy, in which the doctor removes “80% of the stomach,” followed by a procedure to close off a section of the small intestine and connect the stomach to the lower small intestine so that the body has “less time and distance…to absorb fat and calories.” Whoa. That sounds so intense…
Of course, the decision to get the operation wasn’t easy, considering her body positivity advocacy. Remi said:
“I loved being curvy my whole life; I just did. It was who I was. I will always believe that you could be a bigger size and be healthy and happy. I was for a while, that wasn’t a lie. But there was a point when it shifted, and I became really unhappy.”
According to Remi, the surgery came after years of working with her doctors to help her lose weight and manage her binge eating disorder, with which she was diagnosed back in 2019. She tried everything, including Ozempic and other weight loss drugs several times on and off — but experienced severe vomiting on the medications, to the point where she had to quit for good after January 2023. Remi also saw a psychiatrist who specializes in binge eating disorders, went to Overeaters Anonymous meetings, and attended a six-week outpatient eating disorder treatment program. However, nothing worked.
As her binge eating worsened, Remi said she had no idea she “gained weight” until “the internet” told her. We all know how unkind social media users can be, so imagine the type of comments she got back then. Heartbreaking. During this time, she also had been struggling with debilitating back pain, excessive sweating, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, heart issues, fatty liver disease, and heading toward “becoming infertile.” All of which became “so uncomfortable” for Remi. Ultimately, she got to the point where she wanted nothing more than to feel better physically and mentally. Remi recalled:
“It’s my business…[so] I flew with my back out to LA for this 12-hour shoot and did the whole thing, and it was the most painful thing of my life. And maybe that was also when I was just like, I’m done.”
In the fall of 2023, Remi decided to have weight loss surgery. By December 11 of that year, she went under the knife and thought the recovery process would be quick. It was anything but. She said:
“I need to say that it was the most brutal thing. I get the surgery. I was in recovery hours, hours, hours, hours, throwing up. It was not normal. I was supposed to leave [the hospital] in one day. I could not stop projectile vomiting, and I couldn’t drink water. They won’t let you leave if you can’t drink water. I actually can’t explain how horrible it was.”
Jeez!
After three days, she was discharged and stayed with her parents to finish her recovery. However, things didn’t get better. Remi couldn’t eat or drink and continued to vomit for six weeks. As she put it, she was “not f**king okay” and fell into “a very, very deep depression”:
“I really — I wanted to die.”
What didn’t help matters was that her boyfriend broke up with her over text two months after the surgery, too! Ugh! Thankfully, things got a little better. She’s regained her confidence and found ways to take care of herself both physically and mentally, such as going to yoga, and pilates, and sees a therapist who specializes in eating disorders and helps patients who had bariatric surgery. She also said of her one-year post-op:
“My binge eating is better. I’m still struggling and I have those thoughts, but I can’t physically binge as much because I don’t have the room for it. You cannot drink and eat within the same 30 minutes. Sometimes I’m out to dinner with friends, and I run to the bathroom. It’s also hard; I’m going to these events and dinners, and I’m constantly getting sick.”
Oof. She also suffered from hair loss. However, the biggest challenge for Remi has been getting used to her new body:
“I never thought it would be this quick. I never wanted to be this size…I’m probably the only person that’s ever gone to a doctor for weight loss to be like, Okay, but can I still be curvy? It’s really confusing to be so quickly in a different body but have the exact same brain.”
She is not kidding when she says it happened “quick.” Speaking more about her story on the Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Remi said she lost more than 140 pounds in less than a year.” WOW! Read more about her health journey HERE and watch the podcast interview (below):
