One very important person wasn’t there for Sofia Richie’s wedding day.
For those who don’t know (or haven’t been on TikTok recently), the 24-year-old married 29-year-old music executive Elliot Grainge at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, on Saturday in front of a star-studded audience. Her guests included brother-in-law Joel Madden, Cameron Diaz, Benji Madden, Paris Hilton, and Carter Reum. You can see highlights from her wedding day – including her gorgeous Chanel dress (below):

But one person noticeably absent from the big day? Her older brother Miles Richie. When Sofia and her guests began posting pictures and videos of the ceremony, fans realized the 28-year-old was missing from the festivities — something that shocked fans, who know Sofia and Miles have been so close in the past. And soon social media users began questioning if he purposely skipped out on the wedding, writing on Twitter:
“No sighting of Miles Richie at his sister’s Sofia’s wedding they used to be so close!”
“i don’t think Sofia Richie’s brother was at her wedding? that’s her besty”
“I’m confused. Was Sofia Richie’s brother not at her wedding???”
“Was Sofia Richie’s brother not at the wedding?! WHATS THE TEA”
Well, we finally have an answer — and it turns out Miles had a very good reason to miss the wedding. According to Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, he ended up testing positive for COVID-19 right before the event. Oh no!! A rep for the siblings revealed:
“Miles wasn’t feeling well before the wedding so he got a COVID test, and it came back positive. Sofia would have loved for her brother to have been there on her special day, but she understands why he couldn’t make it. The 28-year-old musician was missed by the family and all the wedding guests.”
Ugh! This damn pandemic continues to ruin big days… But good for him doing the right thing and not prioritizing his own needs over the health of all the guests!
Fortunately, Sofia still had her other family members at the wedding — including Nicole Richie, who gushed about her little sister on Instagram, saying alongside a sweet photo of them:
“I love you more than anything”
Sofia’s father, Lionel Richie, who walked his youngest daughter down the aisle, opened up about the nuptials to ET later on, sharing:
“It is a humbling time in your life because you’re handing one of the loves of your life away. But really, I’ll tell you a story, I’ve known Elliot since he was 9. So interestingly enough, I didn’t have to vet the kid. I know who he is!… I love him. I love them. So it was really great.”
Awww! While it must have been hard for Sofia not to have her bro there for such a big moment in her life, it looked like she still had a beautiful and fun wedding weekend.
