Major League Baseball is in hot water after making a mystifying decision to put out a VERY questionable hat for the Texas Rangers baseball team… and then once fans started calling out its design on social media, MLB pulled it from the shop!!
The sports apparel retailer Fanatics has been pushing their New Era Overlap 5950 hat collection for a few weeks now as baseball teams are in the middle of their spring training. The designs of all the hats are, uh, downright strange — though we’ll talk more about that in a minute. First, it’s the Rangers hat specifically that’s catching all the social media heat!

So, as the style’s “overlap” name might suggest, the Rangers’ hat has the ball club’s signature block “T” logo superimposed to overlap the word “Texas” plastered across the front. Whatever, right?
Well, the thing is, the design spells out “Tetas.” And “tetas,” as some of you may already be giggling about, is the Spanish slang word for breasts!!! Yes, really!!!
Take a look for yourself (below):

OMG!!!
According to the Dallas Morning News, the hat was quietly pulled from the MLB’s online shop at some point late on Monday or early on Tuesday. But that didn’t stop social media users from laughing about it! Over on X (Twitter), fans can’t get enough of the bilingual boobalicious brouhaha:
“Wait, that was real?”
“It’s literally just boobs like what? Soft people i stg”
“I’d buy a pair .. and who doesn’t love boobs!”
“Well now i want one”
“Wow, that hat is atrocious, and not because of the perceived slang. It’s just fugly. Was it designed by AI or just by someone with no skill in design?”
“But I love Tetas.”
“Can we talk about how criminally bad the design is anyways? I need to rinse my eyes after seeing that garbage.”
“Damn, it was the best one with this design.”
“Not one employee there speak Spanish? Damn”
That last comment — that’s what we want to know, too!!
And here’s the even funnier part: some people already managed to buy “Tetas” hats before the merch got pulled! As you can see (below), one dude proved his purchase by sharing a picture of the short-lived topper:

LOLz!
The “Tetas” controversy isn’t spring training’s only apparel issue, either. The whole damn line of hats is getting called out! The Arizona Diamondbacks hat has a big “A” above the word “Arizona,” which makes the design read “Ariana.” Which, uh, maybe that’s great for Ariana Grande, but who TF else would buy that lid?!
Meanwhile, the Houston Astros‘ hat has the same issue that leads people towards seeing the perceived non-word “Ashos.” Or, uh, some folks are saying that they see another pair of words altogether:

OOF!
This isn’t the first f**k up, either. Last season, in a separate spring training hat launch, MLB’s design team mangled up the Oakland Athletics‘ hat to a truly comical degree:

Dude. We don’t want anyone to lose their job over this mishap, but whoever is in charge of designing these hats needs to be internally reassigned to do LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE. Just saying!
