What troubling news.
On Monday, aspiring musician Timothy Heller took to Twitter to reveal that she was allegedly raped by The Voice‘s Melanie Martinez. According to her detailed note online, Heller claimed Martinez got her high and sexually assaulted her during a sleepover. How awful.

The up-and-comer wrote:
“I have kept this secret for years, convincing myself that it wasn’t a big deal and I wasn’t hurt by it. The thought of accepting that my best friend raped me seems insane.”
Per Timothy, prior to the assault, she and Melanie were incredibly close friends. She continued:
“One night during a sleepover, she became increasingly interested in my sexual preferences. As someone who had previously been through sexual abuse, sex is hard for me to talk about. I was obviously uncomfortable, but she was my best friend, so I tried to be open about it.”
Heller then claimed that Martinez repeatedly requested that they have sex, a request Timothy denied several times. In fact, Heller stated that she vehemently said, “no.” Timothy revealed:
“It went on for hours… I just wanted to sleep, I was exhausted.”
Timothy was more than uninterested in participating in a sexual encounter with Melanie as, at the time, she had a boyfriend and work in the morning. This, apparently, did not dissuade Martinez as the next night she reportedly came on to Timothy again.
According to Timothy’s account, Melanie got her high, fondled her breasts, penetrated her with a sex toy, and performed oral sex on her. The Sleep artist added:
“I never said yes. I said no, repeatedly. But she used her power over me, and broke me down. Just so there is no confusion, I was molested by my best friend…she performed oral sex on me and then I was penetrated with a sex toy without being asked. That’s what happened.”
When I wrote this story about my assault, I initially wasn’t going to make the abuser. But I think it’s important for you all to know this is about Melanie Martinez pic.twitter.com/4PQ5oNI2s9

Timothy ended her poignant statement by reminding her followers that “girls can rape girls [and] best friends can rape best friends.” Intense stuff.
In response to these damning claims, Melanie has since released the following online:

Melanie this is a completely unacceptable response. Not saying no doesn’t mean yes. But for the record, she did and has stressed that numerous times. Shame on you for this disgusting reply that contributes to the victim culture we live in. @MelanieLBBH https://t.co/4nxCbxzofh

“She never said no to what we chose to do together” – Melanie Martinez.
A person can say “no” in many different ways
