This is what crowdfunding was made for!
When Miles Jelfs, a citizen of Bristol, England, adopted a pet tortoise from a friend he immediately noticed something was wrong with the little guy.
The tortoise name is Cedric and he had a prolapse of the cloaca — which basically meant that he had a swollen penis.
Although the operation needed was a minor procedure, it HAD to happen to save the tortoise’s life!
The problem was that Miles Jelfs did not have the funds to pay for the surgery which cost 150 pounds!
Here’s what Miles said:
“I thought I was doing a favor by taking Cedric in from a friend who wasn’t really able to look after him. But when I checked him over I saw that something wasn’t right in that area. I took him straight to the vets and they said he needed this operation pretty quickly. Unfortunately I am not able to front the cost for this treatment alone and as this is my first pet. I have no pet insurance in place, neither am I eligible for RSPCA or PDSA funding. I’m not very well off and I don’t come from a very affluent family, and I don’t have a lot of disposable income. It will be causing him a lot of pain and you can tell when he walks that it is not very comfortable for him, poor little guy. And if it was left without treatment it could certainly be fatal.”
So Miles took to the site GoFundMe, and hoped some folks would help!
On the site he wrote:
“Besides the obvious issue of the prolapse, Cedric appears to be in very good health. It would be a shame to see him suffer as a result of this, when at just four years old, he could be looking at another 90 plus years of life, provided he can get the right treatment. Please help me get this awesome little guy the treatment he needs. Any donations no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.”
Well, people heard Miles’ plea! So far folks have donated ├é┬ú505 in only six days which definitely has surpassed the amount needed! Any extra dough will be given to charity!
But Cedric isn’t out of the woods yet! Miles recently wrote:
“It is now confirmed Cedric will almost certainly require an amputation of the affected area, which is going to cost ├é┬ú350.
Unfortunately, after a full check up, it appears Cedric is currently too thin and anaemic to undergo the operation at this time. We have picked up some Reptoboost and Nutrobal suppliments to accompany an intense shake up in his diet and care with the hope he will be fit for the operation in the next 3-4 weeks.

Hopefully Cedric responds to the supplements Miles gives him, and will be able to undergo the surgery.
He may have to lose his manhood, but it’s totally worth it to save his life!
Plus he’ll always have Paris his shell!
