Worldwide meat production and consumption are still generally on the rise…but drought and disease in 2011 have really slowed it down.

The big drought in the midwest has really slowed down growth, but so has the rising cost of livestock feed.

There are all sorts of figures going up and down at the same time, but in general, things aren't all that great.

Unless you're a vegetarian.

Looks as though Chuck Bass is making a new dog friend on the upcoming season of Gossip Girl, because Ed Westwick was spotted in full-character walking one ADORABLE looking little guy around Central Park Wednesday, while shooting a scene for the CW drama!

Ooh! Maybe this means he'll be getting his act together this time!

You can't take care of a pet unless you can take care of yourself!

Foie Gras Or Not? The Globale Debate

Foie Gras Or Not? The Globale Debate

FYI: Foie gras is a food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened. This fattening is typically achieved through gavage (force-feeding) corn.

Essentially the core of most foie gras wars stem from the fact that animal rights groups believe that the process of feeding ducks with a funnel inserted in the duck's esophagus is cruel. Proponents of the delicacy argue that ducks do not have a gag reflex and therefore feel no pain from the force feeding.

Popular chef, Linton Hopkins, recently scribed a passionate case for why he chooses to keep foie gras on the menu. He explains that he is deeply committed to sourcing cruelty-free products and has gone through extensive research to ensure that the foie gras he procures is from humanely-treated ducks.

In Brooklyn, Do or Dine restaurant offers foie gras donuts on the menu, a dish that prompted an online petition that has garnered over 1,000 signatures. The petition was started by a woman in Maine.

On the global level, the organizers of a food fair in Cologne, Germany held in October have decided to ban serving foie gras this year, after getting pressured by animal rights groups. Foie gras production is illegal in Germany, but consuming it is allowed. French foie gras producers are not happy about the ban; France's external trade minister said the boycott would have "global repercussions."

Protest At Zookeeper Movie Premier

Zookeeper Premier

So sad.

Last night animal rights groups came to protest Kevin James' Zookeeper in honor of a giraffe who died on during production.

Tweet, the giraffe on the set who had also been forced to perform in Ace Ventura and a slew of Toys "R" Us commercials.

While giraffes in the wild can live into their mid 20s, Tweet was only 18 years old.

According to a whistleblower who contacted PETA, Tweet's premature death may have resulted from his eating pieces of the blue tarp that covered his enclosure. The whistleblower alleges that Tweet's owner and trainers were notified that the giraffe had been eating the tarp but that they did nothing about it.

RIP Tweet.
