Cue up Alanis Morissette. This is definitely ironic.
You may recall that several months ago, an author by the Bret Easton Ellis pissed off a lot of people when he compared the show Glee to a “puddle of HIV.” While the comment was insensitve and cruel, it seems Bret will soon become very acquainted with that puddle as one of the Gleeks as just signed on to the new movie his adapting.
Darren Criss has reportedly signed on for a supporting role in Downers Grove, which already has Lucy Hale and Hayden Panettiere attached. Bret actually confirmed the news via his Twitter, while simaltaouesly taking his large foot out of his mouth. He tweeted:
“Whatever my problems with Glee have nothing to do with the incredibly talented cast itself. Have tastelessly bashed the show not the actors.
And no the producers of the script I wrote (Downers Grove) which Darren Criss might (or might not) star in didn’t make me write that tweet.”
Suuuuure they didn’t.
Oh, this is just too good! We love when people say things they can’t really take back, but they have to try to anyway or else they lose their sweet career. It’s so entertaining.
UPDATE: False alarm. According to the flick’s management team, there is no truth to Darren being cast in the movie. In fact, we’re told that no one eve knows how the rumor got started.
Um, we do! It’s called Bret’s Twitter! See above!
