Aly Raisman & Simone Biles Call Out 'Massive Cover Up' Surrounding Sexual Abuse Settlement

aly raisman and simone biles speak up against usa gymnastics settlement

Aly Raisman and Simone Biles aren’t staying silent.

It’s been over two years since former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing girls under the guise of medical treatment, but a settlement has now been proposed to pay abuse survivors to the tune of $215 million. However, it’s not sitting well with some of the nation’s top gymnasts.

On Saturday, Biles took to Twitter to share her thoughts:

“Ugh at the airport. Heading to team camp. Still want answers from USAG and USOPC. Wish they BOTH wanted an independent investigation as much as the survivors & I do. Anxiety high. Hard not to think about everything that I DON’T WANT TO THINK ABOUT!!!”

As you may recall, the 22-year-old came forward in 2018 confirming Nassar had sexually assaulted her and named USA Gymnastics for having an alleged role in allowing the abuse to continue.

She continued:

“And don’t THEY also want to know HOW everything was allowed to happen and WHO let it happen so it NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN? Shouldn’t people be held accountable? Who do I ask??? I’m torn at this point….”

Hot on the heels of her friend and fellow Olympian, Raisman chimed in with her thoughts as well:

“The problem is USAG & USOC [United States Olympic Committee] don’t want anyone to know. This is a massive cover up. The only way for anyone to know what really happened is if someone forces them to release ALL documents & data to investigate. HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS HAPPEN?”

In 2017, Raisman came forward as a victim of Nassar’s assault, which began at the age of 15. She bravely delivered a powerful impact statement at his sentencing. The convicted child molester is serving over 175 years in prison.

The 25-year-old added:

“How’d it begin? WE DON’T KNOW! Who looked away? WE DON’T KNOW! Why’d they stay? WE DON’T KNOW! Who tried 2 help & got pushed out? WE DON’T KNOW! Who didn’t try & just snuck out? WE DON’T KNOW! They come, they go. What did they know? Where’d they go? WE DON’T KNOW! WE DON’T KNOW!”

“.@TeamUSA .@USAGym STOP COVERING UP.”

On Monday, Colton Underwood‘s ex continued her public outcry with an appearance on the Today Show. She explained to NBC correspondent Stephanie Gosk why the settlement isn’t enough:

“I personally would like to see USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee release all their documents and data because they are not doing that. They’re not answering our questions.”

Mostly, it doesn’t seem to be about the actual sum of money (USA Gymnastics filed for bankruptcy in 2018), but more about the lack of transparency, as the former DWTS contestant explained:

“We did the best that we could, and we won gold medals for Team USA and we’re asking them now to work really hard and to do the right thing by us. And we don’t feel that same effort from them.”

We hope all of the survivors are able to get the answers they need.
