Amy Schumer Opens Up About Being Raped & Fearing For Her Life In Past Abusive Relationship

Amy Schumer is bravely speaking up about her past abusive relationships.
As we previously reported, the actress revealed in an interview with Marie Claire her first sexual experience wasn’t consensual, and also opened up about it in her new memoir, The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo.
Following the release of the book of personal essays, Amy went on air with Howard Stern on Tuesday to get even more candid about rape culture.

Sharing how her ex-boyfriend had raped her while she was sleeping, the 35-year-old explained:

“I think it’s important to talk about. It’s made me feel less alone when other women have come forward about being sexually assaulted. And also because you know it’s not this perfect rape. People, they want you to have been raped perfectly, and they want you to be a perfect victim. People hear me say that and they go, ├óΓé¼╦£No, she’s like a slut’ and ├óΓé¼╦£I bet she knew’ ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ like, right away, you start doubting. We’re so critical and it makes victims really not wanna speak up, and so I think it’s me saying, ‘Look, I didn’t have a perfect rape.'”

Such a great point, especially since she recently spoke out about writer Kurt Metzger‘s controversial comments about rape.
The Trainwreck starlet also recalled being in an abusive relationship in her 20s and actually fearing for her life. Like she revealed in her memoir, Schumer added:

“At first I would get hurt by accident, it would be like he’d grab me too hard and then I’d get a bad bruise, or he’d like push me a little and I’d like fall into something and get a worse injury, and these things I could kind of excuse.”

Thankfully, she realized she needed out of the relationship:

“It just hit me like a ton of bricks, he’s going to kill me eventually, and I need to get out of here. And honestly a big thought of why I did was for my little sister. I just thought, I cannot ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ I can’t do this to her. I can’t let her get this phone call.”

Hopefully Amy’s candid conversation will help more victims come forward and make rape less of a culture.
