Fashion absurdity strikes again!
Balenciaga‘s latest bag may seem mighty familiar to devoted Ikea shoppers — it looks nearly identical to the Swedish furniture store’s now-iconic “Frakta” shopping tote!

There are some differences, however, like the material (polypropylene versus leather) and the fact that the Ikea bag has its logo written in yellow on the straps. Oh, and of course the whole tiny matter of the price — you can cop the Ikea bag for 99 cents, but you’ll have to pay $2,145 to get your hands on the Balenciaga!
It’s true that designers take inspiration from everywhere — just look at Jeremy Scott‘s latest Candy Crush-inspired line for Moschino — but to knockoff a store’s shopping bag seems really high on the odd scale.
But would Ikea sue for this blatant ripoff of its design? It actually sounds like they’re into the whole thing!
A spokeswoman for the retailer said:
“We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!”
Ha! They are “deeply flattered” and possibly calling up their lawyers as we type, LOLz!
