We were SO excited when we heard that Barbra Streisand would be directing a remake of 1967 hit Gypsy, but it sounds like it won’t be happening…
At least if lyricist Stephen Sondheim has anything to say about it!
An insider divulged:
The biggest roadblock in [Streisand’s] way is Stephen Sondheim, the show’s lyricist, who so far has withheld his permission for her to direct.”
Babs — whose recent gigs include an Oscars performance and a starring role in The Guilt Trip — is determined to not only direct, but star as Mama Rose, in the remake of the classic comedy-drama.
However, the reboot won’t be much without Steven’s gorgeous music, but we have a feeling Barbra will be able to convince him!
If she’s not cut out to direct the film, then who is??!!
