Wow, this could have been a very sad story of another child star failed by the system… luckily Bella Thorne is self-sufficient!
The Assassination Nation star visited Barstool Sports‘ Chicks In The Office podcast on Thursday and made a surprising admission.
She was there to talk about her upcoming collection of personally revealing poems, The Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray, and was asked about the accomplishments she was most proud to share with people.

We’re sure she surprised all her book readers by saying:
“I don’t talk about it in this one, but in the third book it would be the fact that I never learned how to read.”
Um, what?? But… you wrote a book!
She continued:
“I learned how to read from reading scripts.”
Ohhhh! What she means is she didn’t learn from school. Gotcha!
And reading wasn’t the only one of the “three Rs” with which she had trouble. There was also ‘rithmetic. (Wait, that doesn’t start with R!)
She recalled:
“I never learned how to count and I learned how to count from counting my dad’s cash. I’m obsessed with money and literal cash.”
LOLz, who isn’t??
But seriously, what happened with school? It just never worked for the star. Bella explained:
“I remember when I started first grade. Right away, it was awful because I couldn’t read as well as the other kids. My brain mixed up letters like ‘B’ and ‘D’ and ‘M’ and ‘W.’ Dyslexia is different for everyone who has it. For me, it just makes it harder to read or write.”
Bella has been acting seriously since she was in grade school; when she was just 13 years old she starred opposite Zendaya in the Disney Channel original sitcom Shake It Up.

So luckily if she says she taught herself to read from scripts that wasn’t any time recently!
Obviously we know gurl can read and write; she had her own YA book series, Autumn Falls, Autumn’s Wish, and Autumn’s Kiss, published when she was still in her teens. Not too many people can say that!
So if she did really teach herself to read using TV scripts, well, she had an excellent teacher.
And as far as counting goes? Well, let’s just say Bella can handle her finances. She also told the podcast hosts she had “$200 to my name, basically, when I turned 18 and I bought a house by the time I was 19.”
Sounds like she has plenty of stacks of cash to count now!
