Björk tells it like it is!
On Wednesday, the It’s Oh So Quiet singer took to Facebook to address the constant sexism she’s witnessed in the media. Oh snap!

As you may know, the 51-year-old has recently expanded her musical talents by becoming a DJ — a career shift she has thoroughly enjoyed. Despite having a successful appearance at Houston’s Day For Night festival earlier this week, Bj├â┬╢rk is pretty bummed about how the media is reacting to her pivot in interests.
The Icelandic artist wrote:

“Some media could not get their head around that I was not ‘performing’ and ‘hiding’ behind desks, and my male counterparts not. I think this is sexism, which at the end of this tumultuous year is something I’m not going to let slide.”

Hear, hear! It seems as though the star is done with the gender stereotypes which dictate women can only write about emotional things like love, whereas men can jump from topic to topic. She continued:

“On the activist Volta I sang about pregnant suicide bombers and for the independence of Faroe Islands and Greenland, on the pedagogic Biophilia I sang about galaxies and atoms but it wasn’t until Vulnicura where I shared a heartbreak I got full acceptance from the media. Men are allowed to go from subject to subject, do sci fi, period pieces, be slapstick and humorous, be music nerds getting lost in sculpting soundscapes but not women. If we don’t cut our chest open and bleed about the men and children in our lives we are cheating our audience.”

You tell ’em, girl.
On a positive note, the celebrated musician doesn’t think the world is doomed to think this way forever. After vowing to stand against sexism in 2017, the songwriter concluded:

“I know the change is in the air. We are walking inside it… lets make 2017 the year where we fully make the transformation!! The right to variety for all the girls out there!!!”

Well said. Be sure to ch-ch-check out Bj├â┬╢rk’s full letter for yourself (below):
