In the wake of Carrie Fisher‘s sudden death, Star Wars fans are mourning the loss of Princess Leia the only way the know how: with the Force.
On Wednesday night, fans gathered to mourn the iconic actress’s passing by holding lightsaber vigils in Austin and Anaheim.
The idea originated at an Alamo Drafthouse theater in Texas, who invited “Jedis of all ages” to honor Fisher’s legacy and “dress up as their favorite STAR WARS characters, bring along as many lightsabers as you own, and invite your fellow Wookiees, Bounty Hunters, Ewoks, and Stormtroopers.”

Another vigil was organized in California’s Downtown Disney on Wednesday night, where a couple hundred fans gathered to hoist their toy lightsabers in Fisher’s honor.
Organizer Jeff Rowan said of the vigil:

“It was a random thing. I decided that I think we should be paying homage to her and a lightsaber vigil was very fitting ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ even though technically she never really even carried a lightsaber ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ but I thought that it was a very fitting way for us to say goodbye to her.”

While Leia never technically carried a lightsaber, she has undoubtedly become one of the most popular and influential characters in cinema — and that legacy will continue to live on through future generations!
