No One Showed Up To This Shelter Cat's Birthday Party -- See The Depressing Pic!

No one showed up to this cat's birthday party

(No, this story has nothing to do with the movie Cats — but it’s almost as sad and disappointing!)

Thought your last birthday bash was a bust? It couldn’t have been as depressing as the 2nd birthday party of Monique (pictured below), a stunning tabby cat who partied alone at the animal shelter she’s been at for the past 115 days.

The 2-year-old feline has been struggling to find her forever home, according to UK-based animal rescue Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, so the shelter decided to throw her a birthday party — complete with a Happy Birthday banner and special toys for the birthday girl.

Sadly, despite the event being hyped on social media, no one showed up to Monique’s party, resulting in a not-so-festive celebration:

To make matters worse, Monique hasn’t received a single adoption application following the party.

Battersea’s cattery team leader, Chrissie Grindrod, shared to the Metro:

“It’s always a shame to see one of our cats be repeatedly overlooked, especially one so young and with so much to offer as a pet. Monique is a gentle soul who thrives with human company, whether that be playing with her favorite toys together or curling up side by side on the sofa.”

The shelter also described Monique as playful and affectionate; an animal who loves adventure and wants to be your best friend. It also noted that the cat is positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), explaining:

“FIV is a slow-acting virus and most cats live long, happy and healthy lives. However, in order to protect other cats and to preserve the health of the carrier, Battersea rehomes FIV+ cats to homes with cat proof gardens. Also, due to her FIV+ status, Monique will need to be the only pet in the household.”

Anyone who wants to give this kitty the gift of a loving home should apply to adopt Monique on Battersea’s website.

For the interested adopters who are hesitant to do so due to the need to cat-proof their garden, Battersea said it can help potential families with the cat-proofing so Monique can finally find her forever family.

The purrfect fluff even got the attention of celebrity cat lover Ricky Gervais:

Hopefully, all the press Monique is getting with help find her a good home!
