We’re not saying that Colin Firth‘s home in London is so green that they’re not allowing it to be greener, but rather, his plans to make the home more eco-friendly have been denied.
All for the sake of aesthetics.
Interestingly enough, Colin and his wife Livia have a brilliantly eco-friendly home in Umbia, Italy. They’ve been all about the green initiative for YEARS.
The problem is, they need to spend half their time in their London home, and would like it to be friendlier to the environment. So they applied for a permit to install a solar panel.
It was DENIED.
Why?
Their house is located in Bedford Park, a west London architectural conservation area. The solar panel was to be 7ft by 3ft 10in — which isn’t so bad.
The council claimed:
“It has not been demonstrated that the solar panel will produce more energy than other renewable energy sources.├óΓé¼┬¥
Which is BS for, “our real reasons are less meaningful.”
They continued:
“The proposed solar panel would erode the architectural qualities of the listed host building itself and would cause actual harm to the character and appearance of the Bedford Park conservation area. [It would increase] the harm done to the historic setting and the street scene clearly outweighs the benefits of the project.”
Architectural qualities = prettiness. Character and appearance = prettiness. Using the phrase “actual harm” is absurd!
The solar panel WOULD have been visible from the street, but that’s nothing compared to the green results gained from it.
It’s a shame they were denied purely because it might disrupt the aesthetic qualities, not because it would make the roof cave in or something.
