Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Verse Co-Star Addresses Fan Theory He's Secretly In Love With Her Amid Josh Allen Engagement News: 'A Tough Weekend'

Hailee Steinfeld Spider-Verse Shameik Moore Responds Crush Theory Josh Allen Engagement

Oh man, who knew when Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen announced their engagement last weekend, they were saying yes to the public implosion of her co-star!

Apparently it’s been a fan theory for a while now that Hailee’s Across The Spider-Verse co-star Shameik Moore, who plays Miles Morales to her Gwen Stacy, is hopelessly in love with her. Fun fact: almost every onscreen couple from the Spider-Man movies — Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, Andrew Garfield and Emma StoneTom Holland and Zendaya — have gotten together IRL. But not this time. So did this Spidey want them to be something more??

A comment here or there has convinced some fans Shameik has had an unrequited crush for years. It didn’t help that just moments after the engagement news dropped, he tweeted:

“There’s still more people to meet. More opportunities to come. And more chances to try. Live, learn, apply.”

He saw what everyone was saying about him “not being OK” with the news she was marrying another guy and blasted the fan reaction:

“yall been twisting my words and f**kin wit my name for years now.”

But he’s not done.

In a panel at Fan EXPO San Francisco over the weekend, he told the crowd:

“It’s been a tough weekend, my brother. The internet’s been killing me, I’m sorry.”

Per ScreenRant, he explained how folks took his very innocent comments about his job in a weird direction. It started when he was talking about doing voiceover in person:

“A lot of times we don’t get to do it with castmates, right? Because I might be in New York, Jake [Johnson] might be in Chicago… and we do the voice work from wherever we are. The second movie Hailee and I worked more. And during interviews, I would speak about how much – I’m reading with Kemp Powers. I’m reading with Chris [Miller] or Phil Lord. So I’m always talking to older men every time either in person or whatever the lines are. [Laughs] And so, I spoke about how fun it was or how much easier it was working with my co-star. And then these video clips got put together.”

Suddenly you have supercuts where he’s saying over and over again what a blessing it was to look at Hailee, his actual costar, while talking about his character’s affection for her. And voila. Instant unrequited love.

But folks online are not letting it go — and Shameik very much needs them to! He took to TikTok on Wednesday to try once again, pleading his case:

“There’s no way, especially in today’s moment and time, all the stuff going on in the workspace, there is no way I could be making someone uncomfortable and it be okay in reality. In reality – on social media, it’s fun and games. In reality, I would lose my job. Keep that in mind.”

It’s a really good point. It may be funny or juicy for folks online to imagine some drama… but if he was really being weird with his co-worker, that’s the type of thing that gets movies recast.

What do YOU think, Perezcious readers? Is there really something there? Or do these very online fans need to chill??
