LA might be voting on whether or not to make condoms mandatory in adult films! There’s a ballot initiative called the Safer Sex In The Adult Film Industry Act that actually got enough signatures to make it onto the June ballot!
Here’s what it says would have to happen:
“Any person or entity directly engaged in the creation of adult films who is issued a permit [must] maintain engineering and work practice controls, including the provision of and required use of condoms, sufficient to protect employees from exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials consistent with state law.”
And guess what — there were more than enough signatures. It required 41,138 valid Los Angeles voters├óΓé¼Γäó signatures and they landed 70,889.
The problem is that the state already has a law in place. The idea is that this would help them enforce that law, but it might be useless. And that useless addition to the ballot would cost $4.4 million of tax payers money. So L.A. has said they have to look into it further before they let it on.
The porn industry is obviously happy about it.
Either way, expect to hear a lot more about this soon!
