Michelle Williams Says Working On 'Dawson's Creek' Was 'Like A Factory Job'!

Michelle Williams is here to remind you that working on a popular teen drama isn’t exactly a swim up the creek.
The Oscar nominee remembered some of the more grueling aspects of starring in the WB hit Dawson’s Creek early in her career, and she compared the gig to working in a factory!
In a joint Variety interview with Patricia Clarkson, the 38-year-old admitted that while the show was “an incredible learning experience,” the demanding shooting schedule and lack of creative control made the work somewhat tedious.

She explained:

“We did 22 episodes a year, and you’d be getting scripts at the last minute and you had zero input… It was a little like a factory job.”

We’re not sure actual factory workers would agree with that analogy, but we digress…

Still, Williams went on to admit that the factory-like experience of Dawnson’s Creek is what kept her from taking other TV roles for over a decade.
But now that we’re in a Golden Age of television, things are much different. Williams made her small screen comeback in 2019’s Fosse/Verdon, in which she stars alongside Sam Rockwell. She shared:

“When [Fosse/Verdon] came around, people had been saying for a long time, ‘Television is different now.’ And I could see that that was true and that it was something that I should open myself up to.”

This isn’t the first time the celebrated actress has compared Dawson’s Creek to less-than-glamorous work. In 2010, she told PopEater that starring in the soap was “kind of like being a mobster,” explaining:

“You set up a shop selling pizza but in the back you’re laundering money. You’re doing one thing in plain sight and secretly plotting something else. I was plotting my tastes, my interests, my beliefs and hopes for what I could be.”

Basically, she was having her own private Dawson’s Creek in her trailer. LOLz!
Now that she’s come of age, however, Williams says she’d be willing to revisit her character, who was killed off in the series finale, if there was ever a Creek revival.
