Nicole Scherzinger opens up about her past eating disorders

Nicole Scherzinger is opening up about her battle with eating disorders for a new video in order to help those struggling as well.

The 40-year-old explained:

“Growing up I really struggled with feeling like I fit in. I even had a hard time feeling like I fit into my own skin. I was just really hard on myself, I had a lot of struggles with self-esteem and a lot of insecurities and later on that resulted in me having eating disorders because of my body dysmorphia. I was just really hard on myself growing up and I just didn’t like myself very much.”

Nicole, who skyrocketed to fame in her early 20s, had an inspiring message for her younger self, saying:

“I would tell my younger self that you are perfect just the way that God made you. You are precious and you have purpose. You’re going to go through a lot of pain and struggles in life, but there is purpose in that pain and there’s a bigger plan. And when you go through those struggles and challenges it’s going to be preparing you and protecting you, Nicole.”

She continued:

“And even though you feel like you don’t fit in it’s because you’re not meant to fit in, you’re meant to stand out. Just hold on, don’t give up. Don’t let anyone else, don’t let anyone, not even yourself, get in the way of who you are and who you were created to be.”

Scherzinger finished, reminding herself and others of their worth, confessing:

“That you are enough, that you are worth it. And that you’re perfect just the way that God made you… Just wait and see.”

Back in 2014, the songstress opened up to British Cosmopolitan about her battle with bulimia, admitting:

“I had such a great life on the outside, the Dolls were on top of the world, but I was miserable on the inside.”

She went on to explain:

“It is such a horrible, paralyzing disease and it was such a dark time for me. I didn’t think anyone knew in my group or in my family because I hid it that well, I was so ashamed. I knew it wasn’t normal or healthy because I was hurting myself through this cycle of disordered eating.”

But after hitting rock bottom, Nicole realized what she needed to do:

“I had started losing my voice, I couldn’t sing at shows, and then I remember my manager finding me passed out on the floor in Malta or in the south of France. I thought, ‘I’m going to lose everything I love if I don’t love myself. I’m never letting that happen again. You only get one life.”

We’re so glad she’s healthy now and opening up about her story to help others who may be struggling.
