Nicolle Wallace Spills Tea On The View, Shares Why She Thinks She Was Fired!

nicole Wallace reflects on view firing

If only Nicolle Wallace knew then what she knows now!

The one-time press secretary for President George W. Bush opened up about her 2015 firing from The View in a new Los Angeles Times interview out Monday, where she reflected on why she thought she was axed from the long-running daytime talk show.

When asked if she thought a show as contentious as The View was “really helpful for political discourse,” the MSNBC host said:

“Well, I think the problem was it wasn’t contentious that season I was on. Being fired from a TV show where you think you’re kind of baring your soul feels personal because it is. It’s like being broken up with. Because I never worked in entertainment I think what I didn’t understand is: It really was a casting, and it was a casting they didn’t like.”

Well then!

It’s no secret that The View is known for its infamous blow up arguments between the left-leaning and right-leaning panelists — Rosie O’Donnell vs. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Meghan McCain vs. literally everyone — but Nicolle makes it sound like she was straight up fired over not making headlines for butting heads with her co-hosts.

Hmmm. TV producers putting ratings above all else… imagine that!

Wallace went on to acknowledge she was not one to spar with her co-panelists, explaining that she “sought to make peace” with former co-hosts Rosie O’Donnell and Rosie Perez, and had a “such a special friendship” with Whoopi Goldberg, who is still the lead panelist on the show.

She shared:

“I sought to make peace with Rosie O’Donnell and Rosie Perez [then co-hosts on The View]. I had such a special friendship with Whoopi Goldberg — the first human being who I have ever heard say out loud, in the summer of 2015 — ‘[Donald Trump] is going to be a president, guys.’ I remember whipping my head around and looking at her.”

Simpler times all around! Nowadays, Wallace doesn’t have to worry about picking fights with her co-hosts to keep her ratings up: her MSNBC show Deadline: White House was recently expanded to two hours, and she’s taken over the Meet the Press Daily slot once held by NBC NewsChuck Todd.

Her sudden firing aside, Wallace says she “loved” her time on the ABC morning program, and her former co-hosts have nothing but wonderful things to say about her. In an email to the Times ahead of the interview’s publication, Goldberg praised Wallace, writing:

“The only thing better than one hour with Nicolle Wallace is two — it just makes you smarter.”

Sounds like keeping things civil on The View was a good decision for Wallace in the long run!
