Chatting With... Dev!

She’s one of the freshest and fiercest females on the scene, and we heart her!

Perez recently sat down with Dev to talk about her upcoming debut album, out this September, working with David Guetta, Timbaland, Far East Movement, how she grinded her way to the top, love in her life and a recent run-in with the cops!

Read some highlights from our chat… after the jump.

And watch the interview in full (above)!

Perez Hilton: I first must ask you, you just had a run in with the authorities?

Dev: Yep we did. My proof that that happens to us sometimes. We got pulled over for our tint.

Perez Hilton: In California, you can’t really have too much tint on your windows. Which I think is lame balls —

Dev: Yeah, it’s a little lame balls.

Perez Hilton: Like so long as it’s not like completely obstructing your side view mirrors I think it’s okay.

Dev: Of course. It was so weird. It was a bike cop. He was on a like a real bike, like a bicycle.

Perez Hilton: You’ve been on the road recently. Now you’re in LA, do you have some time off?

Dev: No time off, but I’ve been home here. Me and the Cataracs have been wrapping up everything for the album.

Perez Hilton: Which is coming out in September.

Dev: Yes, I’m so excited.

Perez Hilton: What’s it called?

Dev: “The night the sun came up”.

Perez Hilton: Did you do a whole album with them (The Cataracs)?

Dev: No, I worked a little bit with Timbo, he’s featured on the album.

Perez Hilton: Not Timberland?

Dev: Yeah.

Perez Hilton: Oh Timberland?

Dev: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Perez Hilton: Oh you call him Timbo.

Dev: Yeah, you know Timbo. Yeah, no but everything was done with the Cataracs.

Perez Hilton: And how did you first get in touch with them?

Dev: We met on MySpace in 2008.

Perez Hilton: Back when people were still using MySpace.

Dev: Yeah, it was so cool.

Perez Hilton: Now how will producers get in touch with artists?

Dev: I don’t know.

Perez Hilton: Facebook?

Dev: Facebook and Twitter.

Perez Hilton: Twitter?

(Music clip)

Perez Hilton: You got in touch with them in 2008. It’s you know well into 2011 now. And in that span of time, if you go on YouTube and you type in Dev, a lot of songs will show up. Will some of those, all of those, none of those be on the album?

Dev: As of right now there, it’s all new stuff.

Perez Hilton: It’s all-new stuff?

Dev: Yeah.

Perez Hilton: That’s awesome.

Dev: I know. It was really important for us to, well for me to work just with the Cataracs being that they kind of you know discovered me I guess on MySpace and stuff. And yeah, to come with all new music, it’s, this is our first time ever putting anything out in myself. So it was cool to kind of —

Perez Hilton: But I also think it’s kind of like the new model, like you just kind of need to do it yourself and make it happen.

Dev: Yeah, for sure, for sure.

Perez Hilton: And that’s what you did. How long after you started releasing content online, did like labels start to circle you?

Dev: It was a little bit. I think that I went through this phase where they kind of didn’t know what to think of me or do with it. But then you know “G6” kind of popped off and they really saw like the grind and all the music that was really behind it, and that’s when everybody sort of started appreciating things.
