The Golden Globes are just around the corner!
After a three year hiatus from hosting the event, it sounds like Ricky Gervais is ready to push the envelope once again!
The British comedian was considered one of the most controversial hosts in the award show’s history after roasting its elite guests — but Gervais never understood why people were so shocked by his humor.

Opening up to The Hollywood Reporter, the Derek star reflected on the heat he got from his jokes, saying:

“That stuff I did, I was shocked that people thought that was shocking… I wasn’t trying to bring anyone down, I wasn’t trying to undermine the moral fabric of America. I was making jokes. I suppose they weren’t used to it being a bit of a tease and a bit of a roast.”

For the 54-year-old, burning prominent members of The Church of Scientology and making digs at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association President is what made the ceremony more watchable for the audiences at home, continuing:

“I made the decision: Do I pander to 200 fragile egos in the room or 200 million people watching at home? There’s nothing in it for the people watching at home. They’re not winning awards. It’s not a spectator sport watching other people win awards, so I tried to make it one.”

The actor also couldn’t care less about catering to the growing outrage culture of people who are “professionally offended,” explaining:

“Just because you are offended doesn’t mean you’re right. Anything you say, any joke you make, someone, somewhere, could get offended, right? Justified or not. Somewhere there is a chicken who crossed the road and got seriously injured and he doesn’t like that joke.”

But which celebs will be getting the brunt of his humor this time around??

We’ll have to wait to find out — but he did tease that Donald Trump will be getting a jab or two, adding:

“Trump might get a mention. He’s put his head in a basket. I think he’s volunteered for that, you know? You can joke about anyone’s willful behavior. I don’t really joke about things that people can’t help.”

It looks like no one is safe when the Golden Globes airs LIVE January 10 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC!
