Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry collection was auctioned off at Christie's on Tuesday night and to no ones surprise it fetched nearly four times more than expected.

A total of 80 lots were auctioned off for $116 million, setting a world record for a private collection of jewelry -- and that's just the beginning.

La Peregrina was estimated to sell between $2-3 million, but ended up going for a whopping $11.8 million, the most for a pearl jewel. Also smashing records was Taylor's Taj Mahal ruby and gold chain. It sold for $8,818,500 and set the world record for an Indian jewel.

Even though it wasn't a record breaker, Liz's infamous 33.29 carat Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, went for a pretty penny -- $8,818,500.

Dayum.

But as high as those prices may be, a portion of the $116 million will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

A private tribute was held on Sunday for the great late Elizabeth Taylor.

Her son Christopher organized the event where Liz's nearest and dearest gathered at the Steven J. Ross Theatre at the Warner Bros. lot in her honor.

The "Worldwide Tribute to Elizabeth Taylor" benefitted her trust foundation, the Elizabeth Taylor HIV/AIDS Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars in the past 26 years. Press and photographers were not allowed to the "invitation only" event where her closes friend, colleagues, and co-stars paid tribute to the star.

How lovely. We can't believe it hasn't even been a year since her passing. She will always be missed.

Yesterday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors announced that they will honor Oprah Winfrey with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for "her extensive charitable, philanthropic, and educational efforts."

It was a sad when the classic Hollywood icon, Elizabeth Taylor, passed away after a life of success, struggle and survival.

Now the day has come for someone else to enjoy their time in her shoes. Well, okay, maybe not shoes but they'll definitely be walking on the ground she graced.

Taylor's Bel Air estate, which was listed in May as a 7,000-square-foot four-bedroom for $8.6 million, has just been sold.
