netflix may go bankrupt in a year

Don't spend TOO much time creating an extensive Netflix queue…you MAY not make it through the whole thing!

Now, investors' blog SeekingAlpha.com is saying that they believe Netflix could be bankrupt WITHIN A YEAR!:

Considering the state Netflix is in, our money is on Hulu, but only time will tell for sure.

Since the news broke that new episodes of Arrested Development are in, well, development, everyone is losing their shiz, from fans to the tv execs to distributors. When talking of the latter, we're only really speaking of the two online companies that are vying to snag the rights to the 9-10 new episodes of AD when they are finally released.

At present,

The New Girl Orders A Miracle Bra!

The New Girl Zooey Deschanel

…of sorts…

In an effort to boost viewership, FOX has decided to use the underwire of today's television culture by leaking the first episode of The New Girl to iTunes, Hulu, and Fox.com.

The "leak" begins September 6 which will give the series two full weeks of chitter chatter to amp up the official premiere.

With Zooey Deschanel starring, we doubt it's going to need that much of a boost, but ya never know!

Google, Microsoft And Yahoo Fight To Buy Hulu

Filed under: TV NewsDisneyTech TalkYouTubeBusiness Blitz

google-wants-to-buy-hulu.jpg

Google is just the latest company to throw their hat in the Hulu ring.

Along with Microsoft and Yahoo, Google has been added to the list of potential buyers interested in purchasing Hulu, which is currently co-owned by Disney, News Corp., NBC Universal and Providence Equity Partners.

If bidders go high enough, analysts say that Hulu could receive about $2 billion-$3 billion in the deal.

Whoa. That's some major dough. If Google takes over Hulu, we wonder how that will affect their deal with YouTube??

Hulu Classes Up, Becomes A Haven For Rare And Important Films

hulu classes up and becomes a haven for rare and important films

Back in July, things weren't looking too good for Hulu, and we said ourselves that they better come up with a pretty big gimmick to get back on top!

Now, Hulu Plus, the company's paid streaming service, has partnered with The Criterion Collection, and will include many "important classic and contemporary films" in their service.

They'll start out with 150 of Criterion's titles, and an additional 650 will be added in the next several months.

This might not be anything TOO exciting to the folks who utilize Hulu for Modern Family re-runs, but for cinephiles looking for rare titles, and film students who can't afford to pay $30 for a copy of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, this is actually a pretty great value.

Guess the big question here is whether or not there are enough hardcore film folks out there to make this a profitable venture.

Would U sign up for Hulu Plus to gain access to lots of movies rare and important films?

Modern Lawsuit Filed Against Modern Family

modernfamilye.jpg

We HOPE this isn't true, ABC.

Modern Family, which premieres its second season on Wednesday, is in the midst of a lawsuit filed by Martin Alexander, who claims that defendants "illegally copied and/or created" the show based on his "copyrighted work."

In the complaint he filed, he described a pilot he wrote, Loony Ben, which is VERY similar to Modern Family. Here's what the complaint said about it:

"Mr. Alexander began circulating [his] work throughout Hollywood and Los Angeles, California and in New York, submitting it to agents, producers, directors, production companies, networks, network executives, and contests."

One point that seems to make his case increasingly legitimate is the fact that in 2006, he filed a proposed cast list with the U.S. Copyright office, which included Sofia Vergara. Here are the details:

"…includes obscure actress Sofia Vergara as the stunningly beautiful, fiery, temperamental, Latina mother, with a thick accent, who's in love with a Caucasian man and always makes him do the right thing, especially where her son is concerned."

That does seem a bit uncanny, we've got to admit.

Here's a further list of similarities between Modern Family and Alexander's show:

"-focus on a non-traditional family
-a relationship between two gay men who are married, one gay male is heavyset, the other is height-weight proportional
-a heterosexual couple consisting of a Caucasian male and a Latino female with an age disparity
-a lawyer who graduated from Columbia Law School
-an Asian female with Caucasian parents
-a minor child who is a Latino male with a Caucasian father
-a character from Cleveland, Ohio
-an outsider, a non-family member to whom the lead character bears his soul"

Defendants in Alexander's lawsuit include ABC, CBS Broadcasting, Disney Enterprises, Fox Entertainment Group, Blockbuster, Amazon.com, IMDB.com, Keith Murdoch, Apple, Hulu, Steven Levitan, Christopher Lloyd and Picture Day Productions.

Do U think Modern Family was stolen?
