Scientists Create Real Invisibility Cloak

Calm down Harry Potter fans! You can't wear it.

Scientists have taken cloaking to the next level by redirecting light, using heat monitoring and even going underwater.

The latest success is from Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania who made a device that can detect light without actually being seen.

They got the ratio of metal to silicon just right, like in a silicon nanowire (above), and that led to the light reflected from the two materials completely canceling each other out.

They call it plasmonic cloaking. It's a way of controlling the flow of light to create optical and electronic functions but leave nothing for the eye to see.

The scientists envisioned this technology being used to reduce blur in cameras, used in solar cells, sensors and solid-state lighting.

There's no mention of super soldiers or boy wizard applications, which we find odd. LOLz!

Pennsylvania Hospital Announces It Won't Hire Smokers!

Hospital won't hire smokers

Right on!

Geisinger Health System, a hospital in Pennsylvania, has announced it will no longer hire smokers and require employees to pass a nicotine test.

This will probably upset cigarette smokers, but let's be honest, you shouldn't be working in healthcare if you don't care about your own health!

A spokeswoman for the hospital explained their decision by saying:

"Not only do we want to practice what we preach, but we also want our employees to feel healthy, we want our patients and visitors to feel that they are in a healthy environment. So it's an overall commitment to the well-being of all those people."

It sounds like a radical idea, but this kind of screening is not a new concept. In fact, there are 19 states that currently allow employers to do the same thing.

If we were in the business of keeping people healthy and living, we certainly would not want to hire someone who voluntarily breaths in dangerous chemicals that can eventually kill them!

A-Rod Goes Back To The Card Tables

A-Rod playing poker

At least they were legal this time!

Alex Rodriguez was spotted playing high-stakes poker at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Pennsylvania, while in town for several rehab games with the minor league Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

Employees and fans were surprised to see the injured third baseman gambling after his latest scandal involving an underground (and illegal) poker ring alongside other notable celebrities.

Although he wasn't doing anything illegal, some felt he shouldn't be risking his image. One Pennsylvania fan said:

"If you get in trouble for playing cards, then put the cards down. Yeah it's legal but its about his image. I'll tell you what he should do. Play chess. I don't know anyone who got in trouble for that."

However, A-Rod tells a different version from the employees and patrons at the casino that night. He maintains he only dined at the casino's Ruth's Chris steakhouse and called the gambling reports "laughable".

We're sure there were PLENTY of other restaurants around town that weren't located in a casino, so we doubt it was the steak that lured him near the tables. We're also inclined to take the word of SEVERAL dozen witnesses that saw him enter the high-limit gaming room.

It's not a big deal, A-Rod! Not ALL gambling is a crime, just the kind you got caught doing a few weeks ago! LOL!

Philadelphia Eagle Player Suffers Seizure As A Result Of Brain Condition

Mike Patterson

Oh no!

Following Houston Texan Andre Johnson's disgusting dislocated finger accident, another NFL player has suffered a serious injury during training camp. This time, however, it wasn't football's fault.

Philadelphia Eagle's defensive tackle Mike Patterson collapsed to the ground in a violent seizure during training camp on Wednesday and doctors have diagnosed him with arteriovenous malformation (AVM).

The brain condition is the tangling of blood vessels near the skull and may need surgery, although there are apparently many different treatment options. Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters:

"In medicine today, there's tons of options. Everybody wants to jump right into surgery and I'm not saying for this particular case, I'm saying with everything, but there's so many other avenues out there. It would be foolish to speculate what's going to happen to Mike."

Unlike the series of football-related brain illnesses that have been plaguing retired players and led them to file a lawsuit against the NFL, doctors believe Patterson's AVM has nothing to do with his profession. The team's trainer continued to explain:

"We're pretty sure it's what caused the seizure and we're pretty sure it's not football related. It just so happened at football practice. It could've happened anywhere."

It's unknown whether Patterson will return to practice, but he is currently on medication to prevent future seizures.

This is definitely a blow to the team and especially Mike, but we hope his doctors are able to cure his condition!

Hollywoods Hottest Werewolf Covers Muscle And Fitness

Joe Manganiello cover

Christmas in July has come early this year!

Muscle and Fitness has given us all a gift by putting a shirtless Joe Manganienllo on the cover of the July issue!

Whether you're looking for some inspiration or just looking at him in admiration, these pics of Hollywood's hottest werewolf from the hit series True Blood should do the trick!

In the issue, he discusses the painful gym routine he went through to get into the True Blood shape he's become famous for, as well as the stigma he faced growing up in Western Pennsylvania training as both an actor and an athlete, explaining:

"Theater and sports are a weird mix, especially in Western Pennsylvania. When I was growing up, if you showed any form of being artistic whatsoever, it was really frowned upon. That was a really difficult transition for me to make at that age."

The classically trained actor also gives us a peak inside his workout routine inside the issue, including how he got those incredible abs, which alone should make his teasing peers regret any unkind words.

Needless to say, we're so happy Joe stuck to his gut (now covered by rock hard muscle) and did not shy away from acting because of other people's opinions. If he had succumb to peer pressure, we wouldn't have his truly artistically sculpted body to stare at right now! Ha!

Make sure you check out Joe's entire interview in the July issue of Muscle and Fitness that is on stands now and take a peek at more pics of the HAWT Hollywood star below!
