Starbucks Twitter Campaign Backfires!

Starbucks tried to start a holiday twitter campaign that would send around a little holiday cheer… but it backfired pretty badly.

They asked people to tweet out holiday happiness with the hashtag #SpreadTheCheer but all people did was use the hashtag to criticize Starbucks' low tax rates and bad labor policies in the UK.

The highly critical and often profanity laced tweets were even displayed on a giant screen at London's Natural History museum, where Starbucks sponsors their ice rink!

Evander Holyfield Sells His House For $7,500,000!

evander-holyfield-house-sold-million-tazxes.jpg

Normally, if we told you former boxing star Evander Holyfield sold his house for $7.5 million dollars, we'd be impressed and congratulating him.

Except the house sold in a public auction and it's not even that much… he owes the bank twice that number!!

He also owes over $200,000 in back taxes.

His amazingly huge mansion is 54,000 sq. ft on 234 acres.

That's unbelievable.

No one needs that much space. Then they don't have to worry about running into $14 million problems like this.

Best of luck paying your debts, Evander!

Maybe he should get back in the ring for a multimillion dollar exhibition!

Darryl Strawberry's Wife Loses Out On Divorce Settlement To The IRS

Darryl Stawberry

We all know the government's gotta get paid what it's due, but that may mean Darryl Strawberry's ex-wife won't be getting the money promised to her in their divorce settlement.

The former New York Mets player gets $8,891 a month as delayed compensation for his services to the team in the 80s and has designated $800,000 of that money to go to his ex, Charisse Strawberry.

Unfortunately for this baseball wife,

Fan Who Caught Derek Jeter's 3000th Hit May Owe IRS $14,000 For It!

Yankees fan

Christian Lopez, the fan who caught Derek Jeter's 3000th hit, may not be so lucky after all.

Even though he asked for nothing after returning the ball to his favorite New York Yankee, the team gifted him with a suite to watch games for the rest of the season, including playoffs.

Every fan in the stadium wishing they were the one who made the catch may be a little relieved to hear it may not have been worth it. In fact, according to New York accountants, the historic catch may actually cost Lopez as much as $14,000 in taxes!

Ugh! Really? That's just absurd!

Apparently, since the total value of the seats could exceed $120,000 the IRS would consider that to be taxable income.

However, a law professor says if the seats were A GIFT then they would not be taxable, explaining:

"The legal question of whether it is a gift or prize is whether the transferor is giving the property out of detached and disinterested generosity. It's hard for me, not being a Yankee fan, to think of the Yankees as being in the business of exercising generosity to others, but there's a reasonable case to be made that these were given out of generosity."

Ummm, yeah! It seems pretty reasonable to assume the seats were given out of generosity because the fan willingly gave the ball back when he could have kept it and sold it himself!

Christian Lopez must be a stand up guy because we're actually more upset about this troubling news than he is. He told reporters:

"Worse comes to worse, I'll have to pay the taxes… The IRS has a job to do, so I'm not going to hold it against them, but it would be cool if they helped me out a little on this."

Ha! Yes, that would be VERY cool. What do you say, IRS?

Floyd Mayweather Hit Hard With IRS Bill

Floyd Mayweather Taxes

Undefeated championship boxer Floyd Mayweather has been slapped with a $3.4 million IRS tax bill after not paying his federal taxes in 2009!

Yikes!

We don't feel the least bit bad for him however, because this isn't the first time the feds had to come after him to get his taxes!

In 2008, the IRS hit him with a $6.1 million tab for his unpaid taxes.

He has since worked out a payment plan, but apparently he forgot he owes taxes every year.

It must be hard to keep track of all that money coming in, but may we suggest an accountant? Remember, you have to pay those guys too!

Sorry about your money trouble, Floyd, but if we gotta pay taxes, you gotta pay taxes!
