Dannon has agreed to pay $21 million after state and federal regulators took them to court over false claims made on the packaging for Activia and DanActive.
The company makes claims about Activia’s beneficial bacteria and DanActive’s ability to boost immunity despite any studies or evidence that validates these claims. Dannon now has to get FDA approval before putting info about health benefits on their packaging.
“Consumers want, and are entitled to accurate information when it comes to their health,” FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz said in a statement. “Companies like Dannon shouldn’t exaggerate the strength of scientific support for their products.”
We wonder if any other yogurt companies will be taken to court for this same thing. Dannon wasn’t the only brand making claims about their yogurt!!
