ALERT! SPOILERS LIE AHEAD!
Thursday evening’s episode of Glee included a disturbing, heart-wrenching sequence where gunshots are heard within McKinley High School…
And while some, including various residents of Newtown, CT, are upset about certain aspects of the episode, it seems that Glee‘s own gleeks are seemingly happy about how the whole thing went down!
Lea Michele (Rachel) — who wasn’t actually in the episode — tweeted:
Such a moving a powerful episode tonight.. Made me so proud to be a part of this show:)

While Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) expressed:
“At first I was a little shocked that we were actually going to go there, because it├óΓé¼Γäós just something that is very touchy as of late. I was nervous and excited all at the same time that we were actually going to do something so big and with such an impact on something so real.”
Jacob Artist (Jake) saw the contentious subject matter as a great acting challenge. He recently shared:
“I think most of us can agree that shooting this episode and those really heavy scenes when we├óΓé¼Γäóre in the choir room, those were some of our favorites. Because it was such a change from what we├óΓé¼Γäóre normally used to and I think it kind of took a direction on the show that we were genuinely excited to approach as actors. So I think this episode is probably my favorite as an actor.”
But how did Lauren Potter (Becky) feel about portraying someone who brings a gun to school?! How did she feel about the entire episode?
Well, Lauren was reportedly scared at first, but her mamma reveals:
“Some of the stuff that Fox is hearing is, ‘Why would Becky be the one to bring the gun to school?’ They’re dealing with controversy over that and, ‘Why would you have this on ‘Glee’ because it’s a glee club?’ But I think that’s the answer, really. Because it is a high school glee club and it is in the news every day. The shootings are still fresh in all of our minds. If Becky’s going to be fully included on the show — which they’ve done such a good job about that and giving her these juicy stories — then why not Becky?
Whether she has Down syndrome or not, it doesn’t matter … Why wouldn’t it be somebody with Down syndrome because she’s a kid. She’s a teenager. She makes stupid decisions just like other teenagers do.”
If you have yet to see the episode — even if you’re NOT a fan of Glee — it’s definitely worth a watch simply to see the interesting way in which showrunner Ryan Murphy handles such a sensitive subject.
