American Horror Story Season 8 Will Be 'Fantasy Inspired' & Closer In 'Tone' To Asylum & Coven!

Ryan Murphy is done with the “realistic” seasons of American Horror Story and going back to what he knows best: “heightened” horror, batshit crazy storylines, and hopefully at least one out-of-place dance number.
The prolific producer spilled a few details about the show’s upcoming eighth season at the show’s FYC panel on Friday.

While he didn’t reveal much about the new season’s theme, the Glee mastermind did confess the “tone” would be more in line with AHS‘s earlier seasons.
Telling the crowd that season eight would be more “fantasy inspired” and “heightened,” he revealed:

“We’re sort of getting back to the Asylum, Coven feeling. That’s the tone of it.”

Back to basics! And by “basics,” we mean convoluted plots that unapologetically thread together every horror sub-genre! Which now includes fantasy!

Murphy added that the new season takes place just 18 months in the future and will star the regular gang: Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Adina Porter and Leslie Grossman. Joan Collins has also signed on for a role and Anjelica Huston is in talks to play a part as well.
The only other info Murphy was willing to dish was about the character Peters would be playing this year. The creator told the AHS vet:

“Your part this year is a comedic part. You are our comedic and you play a hairstylist.”

Season eight will begin shooting around June 16 and is expected to return on FX in October.
