What a ratings boom! A little too late though…
Simon Cowell, Barack Obama, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and a whole host of others showed up for the series finale of American Idol on Thursday night, and that star power helped ensure a LOT of people watched the last episode ever of the impactful show!
While last season’s finale was an all-time low for the music competition show, the star-studded appearances — and let’s be honest, the idea that this was the last Idol ep EVER — ensured that last night’s finale was up 76% in the 18-49 demographic, and up 61% in total viewers from the week before!!

In total, the show drew 12.94 million people in to watch the two-hour finale, which was the best ratings for a finale that Idol has gotten in three years.
The FOX show sure may not be what it once was, but we can’t forget how it influenced pop culture and gave us so many stars, like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and more.
It appears viewers didn’t forget that nostalgia, either — and sent Idol off into the sunset the right way!
