College Student Flushes Hamster Down Toilet After Claiming A Spirit Airlines Employee Told Her To!

spirit airline to be sued over flushed hamster
Yeaaaaah, we’re not sure we’re buying this.
A 21-year-old student, named Belen Aldecosea, is making headlines this week as she’s going after Spirit Airlines for instructing her to flush her pet hamster down a toilet. According to the Florida native, she called the airline a couple times to ensure that her dwarf hamster Pebbles could join her on a flight from Baltimore to South Florida.

Apparently, when Belen arrived at the airport, Spirit refused to let the little fluff ball board the flight. Here’s where Aldecosea’s story takes a crazzzzy turn. Allegedly, an airline representative suggested that she flush Pebbles down a toilet. WHAT???
Understandably, Spirit denies that an employee made this suggestion to Belen. Regardless, the college student defends that she agonized over the suggestion for hours and chose to flush her pet as she had to get home to deal with a medical issue. Belen told the Miami Herald:

“She was scared. I was scared. It was horrifying trying to put her in the toilet. I was emotional. I was crying. I sat there for a good 10 minutes crying in the stall.”

Okay, for starters, we have very little sympathy for this woman as she made the decision to flush her hamster. Secondly, we HIGHLY doubt an airline would suggest this type of cruelty towards an animal.
The 20-something is now considering suing Spirit for the alleged part they played in her hamster’s demise. Unlike the emotional support peacock that was turned away by United Airlines, lawyer Adam Goodman defends that Pebbles didn’t “pose a danger to other passengers.”
Although the rodent was registered as an emotional support animal, Spirit had the right to refuse Pebbles’ admittance on to the flight over safety and health concerns. Oh, and Belen is still the moron who flushed her hamster down a toilet.
Spirit spokesperson Derek Dombrowski admits an employee misinformed Belen about her hamster’s travel rights, but vehemently denied the flushing suggestion. He noted:

“To be clear, at no point did any of our agents suggest this guest (or any other for that matter) should flush or otherwise injure an animal.”

This directly contradicts Aldecosea’s claim, which specified that an employee suggested Pebbles be released outside or flushed down a toilet. After trying to book a rental car, to no avail, Belen says she chose to flush the critter as it was a “more humane” choice. Was it though????
What do YOU think? Are you buying her sob story??
