An actor is so much more than their sexual orientation.
Sadly, Hollywood has yet to pick up on this fact — something Colton Haynes has learned first hand. It’s been fifteen months since the Rough Night star came out of the closet and it seems his admission has had an impact on his career.

On Tuesday, the Arrow alum took to Twitter in order to address the homophobia he’s witnessed in Hollywood. He wrote:
Hollywood is so fucked up. So much of the focus is on your personal life & has nothing to do with the talent you have to bring to the table

Thank god for Ryan Murphy, Greg Berlanti, & Jeff Davis. They believe gay actors are more than just their personal lives
— Colton Haynes (@ColtonLHaynes) August 30, 2017
So disappointed in how Hollywood cant understand that playing a character has nothing to do with how u live your personal life

You tell ’em, bud! And Colton isn’t the only actor to feel this way as the 29-year-old’s American Horror Story: Cult costar Billy Eichner responded online:
AMEN. 🙌

Smash‘s Andy Mientus also liked Haynes’ tweet and added:
I’m afraid I know exactly what you’re talking about. Be strong, brother ├ó┼ô┼á├»┬╕┬Å

Oof. This isn’t the first time that Colton has spoken out about the homophobia he’s faced as, back in 2016, he claimed that his first manager dropped him for being gay — and then advised him to join RentBoy.com as a way to make money.
Hopefully, Colton’s honesty forces Hollywood to reevaluate the way they interact with LGBT artists. We couldn’t be prouder of Haynes for speaking out!
