Well this is inneresting!!!
Legendary TV journalist Tom Brokaw sat down with David Letterman for a long, wide-ranging interview that’s set to air this Sunday night on Dateline NBC.
The former Late Show host goes all in on his replacement, the late night biz in general, and even… Donald Trump.

Letterman, who hosted the NBC‘s Late Night and then Late Show on CBS for decades before retiring last year, spoke candidly about replacement Stephen Colbert, who has thus far struggled to secure long-term ratings in the format.
Letterman told Brokaw his thoughts on the new host, and some interesting tidbits about women in late night (below):

“I don’t [miss it], and it’s interesting. I thought for sure I would. And then, the first day of Stephen’s show, when he went on the air, an energy left me and I felt like, ├óΓé¼╦£You know, that’s not my problem anymore.’ And I’ve kind of felt that way ever since. I devoted so much time to the damage of other aspects of my life. The concentrated, fixated, focusing on that ├óΓé¼┬ª it’s good now to not have that.”

Obviously, an understandable sentiment.

Letterman continued (below):

“I couldn’t care less about late-night television. I’m happy for the guys ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ men and women ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ there should be more women. And I don’t know why they didn’t give my show to a woman. That would have been fine. You know, I’m happy for their success. And they’re doing things I couldn’t do. So that’s great.”

More women WOULD be welcome on late night TV. Dave’s got the right angle here…
Letterman also slammed Trump after Brokaw asked the former TV frontman how badly he wishes he were able to comment on the crazy election cycle on camera.

Letterman opened up (below):

“Well, I understand that he’s repugnant to people. But, you tell me, the men putting together the Constitution, witnessing this election, wouldn’t they have just said, ├óΓé¼╦£That’s part of the way we set it up. Good luck’? … There’s nothing illegal going on. It’s just he’s despicable. And in this very school and everybody’s school, you hear, ├óΓé¼╦£The great thing about America is anybody can grow up to be President.’ Ooh, geez. I guess that might be true.”

LOLz — a scary thought indeed!

There’s much more from Letterman coming in that interview with Brokaw, including more of his thoughts on handing his show to a woman, and the host’s memories of TV legend Johnny Carson.
