If you somehow missed the biggest Hollywood merger almost of all time, Disney‘s purchase of 20th Century Fox finally went through.
After months of confusion, we finally know what that means for the biggest box office blockbusters over the next few years.
Disney released their revised schedule for the next few years, and it’s a feast of fan favorites.

2019’s schedule is pretty much the same, apart from a couple exceptions we’ll get into later.

For this year at least Disney is keeping Fox a separate entity; it’ll be interesting to see which movies go where in the future…
Apart from Avatar sequels (see below), there are no Fox films scheduled yet past March 5, 2021, a movie called Nimona — based on the fantasy webcomic.
Disney Live Action
This was actually a bit of a surprise — not that Disney was doing live action films, but that they had SO MANY planned!
These are not necessarily all live action remakes of classic animated films, but just look at 2019’s offerings: Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Maleficent 2… It’s where they’re placing their bets right now.
After the highly anticipated Mulan and the odd-sounding Cruella (the 101 Dalmatians live action flick starring Emma Stone), we count NINE unnamed Disney live action flicks on the slate.
We know they’re working on Pinocchio, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Lilo and Stitch. There was talk of a live action Tinker Bell movie and a version of Snow White, possibly a two-hander with Rose Red.
What could the rest be? Our money is on the ever troubled Little Mermaid eventually getting off the ground (er, on the ground from out of the water?). Then maybe Hercules? A photorealistic Bambi?
We’re pretty close to Disney leaping forward and taking on live action versions of recent hits like The Princess and the Frog and Tangled. We’ll just have to see.

Marvel
After the exclamation point that was Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking a bit of a breather to let fans collect themselves.
With the exception of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is actually a Sony release, we won’t be back in the MCU for an entire year!
There are two movies on the slate for 2020:

Then the machine is getting into high gear with three each for 2021 and 2022.

Whoa. That doesn’t even include future Spider-Man movies.
So we know we have a Black Widow solo movie coming, whatever that might be. There’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Black Panther 2 and Doctor Strange 2 are pretty certain. We’ve heard they’re developing a Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu movie.

There’s also the upcoming Eternals, which is already shoring up quite a cast with Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, and Kumail Nanjiani all reportedly in talks.
The project is pretty mysterious considering there isn’t even an ongoing comic about them right now. What we DO know is it will have Marvel’s first openly gay superhero (finally).
But that’s only six of the slated EIGHT movies in the next three years.
If Marvel don’t act on the recently acquired X-Men and Fantastic Four rights, we’ll frankly be shocked.
We mean, it’s definitely been long enough no one even remembers this mess, right..?
Star Wars
Disney CEO Bob Iger himself admitted the company overplayed its hand on the Star Wars property.
After the too much too soon approach of trying to make Saga movies and Story spinoffs back to back with so many Star Wars you’ll wonder if there will ever be Star Peace… they’re finally slowing to a chill.
In fact, for a while they’ll be frozen in carbonite!
After this December’s Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker closes the book on the four decades long Skywalker Saga, we won’t get our next Star War for three whole years!
After that gap it’s one every couple years…

It’s unclear if this is going to be The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson‘s announced trilogy, more spinoff Star Wars Story films, or whatever Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are doing.
Either way, it looks like Disney is playing the long game now, hoping fans will once again build up hunger for anything SW.

Yes, those gazillion Avatar sequels are still happening, whether you’re asking for them or not.
A full 12 years after the 3D blockbuster champ was released, you’ll finally be able to see your favorite characters again.
James Cameron is bringing you back to Pandora — and then trying to sell you a timeshare there, with a new sequel every other year until 2027!

Pixar
We have several Pixar movies coming, and no idea what to expect from any of them.
For next year’s first, we at least have a title — Onward. All we know is this is a “suburban fantasy” about two brothers played by Chris Pratt and Tom Holland.
Past that, it’s all untitled on Pixar’s end.
We’re guessing at least one sequel, probably Inside Out 2. What could the rest be? Who knows, but here’s when they’re coming out.

Artemis Fowl
It looks like the Mouse House doesn’t see Kenneth Branagh‘s adaptation of the best-selling YA franchise as the next Harry Potter after all.
Even though we already got our first teaser for the movie all the way back in 2018, we now won’t be seeing it for another year from NOW — May 29, 2020.
The New Mutants
Oh, poor poor New Mutants…
The X-Men spinoff was originally supposed to come out in April of last year — we first got this teaser for the movie all the way back in OCTOBER 2017!
Since the merger was announced, one of the biggest things Marvel fans are excited to see is an MCU version of the X-Men.
That puts excitement for the first (and last) installment in a new franchise of the old X-Men universe at about zero…
Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams has confirmed the reshoots we’d heard about had NOT happened — and she had no idea WTF was even happening with the movie.
Now we know it’s been moved back AGAIN, this time to April 3, 2020.
Will it ever come out?? We’ll see…
Indiana Jones
Yep, the fifth Indiana Jones film is really happening, and it’s really starring Harrison Ford again, and, well…
We mean, it can’t be WORSE than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, right??
Whatever form Ford’s fifth and final outing as Indiana will take, it is coming our way July 9, 2021.
