Heather Locklear‘s friends are hoping she can turn things around.
As we reported, the actress was arrested on Sunday for felony domestic violence and battery on a police officer — an incident her loved ones are hoping will encourage her to seek treatment.
Sources say the 56-year-old “knows help is available” for her battles with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, as she has previously sought treatment over the years.

However, those close to Locklear are well aware they can’t force her to seek help; she has to make the decision herself.
An insider explained to People:

“She has to be ready to fix it herself. She knows help is available, she’s sought it out before, but you can’t force anybody to get help├óΓé¼┬ª It’s heartbreaking.”

Locklear sought treatment for psychological issues at an Arizona facility in June 2008, where, according to her rep at the time, she “requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication” as she was “dealing with anxiety and depression.”
She returned back home in July 2008 after successfully completing four weeks of treatment — but was arrested two months later on suspicion of driving under the influence in California.

The actress was formally charged with driving under “prescription medications” in November 2008, but the case was dismissed in January 2009. In 2010, she was arrested again for allegedly hitting a no-parking sign.
Flash forward to this month, the actress got into a dispute with her boyfriend Chris Heisser that grew so violent, her brother called the police. This only set off the actress more, prompting her to allegedly scream and physically fight the responding officers.
Locklear has been dating Heisser, her high school boyfriend, since last year.
Friends are hopeful this incident was dire enough for the actress to seek help for her substance abuse, which People‘s source describes as “a disease.”
