Hilaria Baldwin Says Alec Wanted to Take His Own Life After Rust Shooting

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

During the most recent episode of The Baldwins on TLC Sunday night, Hilaria Baldwin made a jaw-dropping revelation about her husband. Apparently Alec Baldwin‘s mental health took a bigger hit from that tragic Rust shooting than anyone realized.

Alec was rehearsing with a prop gun on the western movie’s New Mexico set in October 2021 when it discharged a live round. The bullet first hit director Joel Souza in the shoulder before striking and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. A year later, following a wrongful death lawsuit, Baldwin reached an undisclosed settlement with Hutchins’ family. More recently, last August, a judge threw out an involuntary manslaughter charge that had been brought against the A-lister.

Only now, as part of the Baldwin family’s new reality TV show, are we getting the straight story from Alec and his wife. And Hilaria is sharing just how difficult the entire situation has been on her husband.

On Sunday night’s episode, the 41-year-old wife and mother revealed to a pal that Alec was so distraught, he actually contemplated ending his own life after the shooting. OMG…

During the ep, Hilaria said to the friend that she had been looking back at texts sent by Alec which conveyed how much he was struggling with the incident:

“I found these text messages the other day, between us, you know, the day after [the shooting]. And you know, he said he wanted to kill himself.”

Whoa.

The episode then cut away to a confessional clip, in which Hilaria went on to add more, explaining how Alec would “change places in a second” with Halyna if he were able:

“He has survivor’s guilt. You’re involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine. And so it goes back to that day. He wishes it were him. He would change places in a second. This has affected his health, and his mental health tremendously.”

Honestly, we can’t even imagine going through something like that, having to go on knowing you unintentionally took someone’s life, that they’re no longer there because of you. They say actor Michael Massee, who fired the round that killed Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow, was so wracked with guilt he quit acting for a while. He told The Telegraph years later:

“I don’t think you ever get over something like that.”

Oof. This explains what you may recall was revealed during the show’s premiere episode last month — that Alec has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder in the aftermath of the shooting.

That’s not all, either. In that same confessional, Hilaria also revealed that Alec has also been dealing with various physical health issues, too. Those include heart problems and persistent fainting spells:

“The past few years, all of the sudden he started having heart problems. He’s been hospitalized multiple times. He’s fainted… everybody’s just screaming, I’m going, I’m on top, and I’m shaking him. It’s hard sometimes. But hopefully we’re in the hardest, but tail end of it.”

Jeez. That sounds so scary. All we can do at this point is continue to send love and light to everyone involved as they keep navigating the aftermath of that sad situation.
