Hilary Duff wants to change the system… and she’s got a good point here!
The Lizzie McGuire star made headlines this weekend after confronting a “creepy” photographer who was snapping pics at her 7-year-old son Luca‘s football game. Duff became concerned after she realized no one on either team knew who the man was, or why he was there — and so she confronted him herself, even going so far as to call the police.

The former Disney Channel star was clearly still thinking about the weekend incident on Monday night when she took to her Instagram Stories to share a set of videos about it with her fans and followers.
Speaking from what appears to be her car, Duff talked directly to the camera for a sequence of several clips, further explaining her position and — most notably — openly questioning whether it was possible to change the law to prevent things like this in the future.
For one, the Younger actress recalled how she got a bad vibe from the man involved in the incident because she didn’t recognize him as a paparazzi photographer:
“To be honest with you, I’m not even sure that I know the guy was 100 percent a paparazzi. He could’ve just been a normal dude, I recognize most of the paparazzi that snap me daily and I’ve never seen him before.”
She continued from there, recalling how “no one [from either team] seemed to know him,” and her concern kept escalating when he continued “snapping away” with pics of the kids for more than half an hour.
Eventually, the 32-year-old star called the police, but that disillusioned her even further, as she explained:
“It’s really highly frustrating. I ended up calling the police, ’cause multiple parents felt uncomfortable with it. And the police were, you know, pretty dismissive of me, saying, ‘What do you want us to do? You’re at a public park.’ Well yeah, I’m at a public park, I’m at a place where kids play and kids should be safe here. It’s just extremely strange and inappropriate and creepy to have a man photographing our 7-year-old children and that to be completely legal. Like, if a parent is asking for it to stop, the laws should be changed for you to not be able to photograph that person.”
She summed things up by opening it up to her followers, noting that maybe incidents like this mean laws should be changed to better protect kids from unwanted photography and other focuses:
“If those kids are a subject of your ‘photography’ practice, over and over and over again for a half hour or an hour, however long it was, and you ask someone to please stop that, you should have that right. And we really need to work on changing that law.”
Interesting take. We certainly get where she’s coming from, both as a mother and as a celeb who has had to deal with more than her fair share of aggressive paparazzi tactics.
