Apple Exec Jimmy Iovine Apologizes For Saying It's 'Difficult' For Women To Find Music 'When They Have Their Heart Broken Or Whatever'

Well, this wasn’t exactly as smart as the iPhone…
Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine was on CBS This Morning on Thursday talking about music for women — when he made a remark that was widely viewed as sexist!

Host Gayle King was asking Iovine about Apple Music’s new advertisements — starring Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington, and Taraji P. Henson — which center around the idea of an “instant boyfriend mixtape service.”
Iovine explained why the company is trying to attract more female customers for its music:

“I always knew that women find it very difficult at times, some women, to find music. And [Apple Music] helps makes it easier with playlists ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ but they’re curated by real people. They’re not made by algorithms alone — they’re made by algorithms but with a human touch.”

Why would it be any tougher for women to find music than men??
We realize Iovine is trying to be helpful, but his comments sure could have been phrased better.

If only he had stopped there, though. The exec piled on to the idea that finding music for women is difficult with a more overtly sexist remark:

“I just thought of a problem. You know, girls are sitting around talking about boys, or complaining about boys, when they have their heart broken or whatever. And they need music for that, right? So it’s hard to find the right music.”

Um… what? Girls do nothing but complain about boys? Gee, thanks for informing us about what girls do, old man Iovine!

For Blige’s part, she had Iovine’s back right from the start, when immediately after Jimmy’s controversial statement she said on air:

“It was a genius idea to have girls ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ because that’s what we do, when we get together we listen to music, we talk about life, love, marriage. You know, things like that. So it was just beautiful to have Jimmy choose me to be a part of their world and them be a part of mine.”

After some backlash from the public, Iovine did apologize later on Thursday for his choice of words, saying:

“We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ men and women, young and old. Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize.”

Do U think it’s that controversial?! Or just a poor choice of words??
