Kanye West Gets Real About His Unrelenting Public Support For Donald Trump: 'Everything Is About Putting People In Their Place'

Kanye West opens up about the backlash he's received for supporting Donald Trump.

Kanye West is still defending his political and personal choice to support Donald Trump!

Despite the continuous backlash he’s faced over the years since becoming one of the President’s MAGA-loving supporters, Yeezy seems to prove it time and time again that he’ll never let other people — including his own fanbase — and their mixed opinions influence his own beliefs.

Mr. West reflected on the topic in the cover story for WSJ. Magazine‘s April issue which dropped Wednesday, recalling how fans treated him for standing by Trump’s side through the (very little) good, the bad, and the ugly. ‘Ye explained he resents the fact that people seem to make assumptions about him because of his race, profession, and education:

“I’m a black guy with a red [MAGA] hat, can you imagine? It reminded me of how I felt as a black guy before I was famous, when I would walk in a restaurant and people would look at you like you were going to steal something. ‘This is your place, Ye, don’t talk about apparel. This is your place, Ye, you’re black, so you’re a Democrat.'”

Ugh. Here we go bringing up fashion again. FYI, we’re pretty sure fans were more upset he openly supported a misogynistic, pathological liar instead of concerned about his ventures into apparel. But we digress…

Kim Kardashian West‘s husband continued, claiming his financial and celebrity status hasn’t stopped others from trying to dictate his decisions:

“Everything is about putting people in their place. Classism, protectionism—not just racism. Classism is like living on a bookshelf. The more money you have, the higher you go. And you get to the top and look over and what do you see? Fear.”

Then, true to form, the entertainer veered off on a tangent about his own talents and success:

“I do not like the word ambitious. I’m Kanye West. The word ambitious is beneath my abilities. I’m just a doer. You can see in my eyes there’s not one bit of fear.”

Well, he’s not wrong. You have to be pretty fearless (or really stupid) to still be Team Donald in today’s political climate!

As you’ll likely recall, this isn’t the first time Kanye has gone to bat over Trump — there’s more than enough Twitter rants to prove his loyal and undying support. After famously meeting with POTUS in 2018 to talk about racism and mental health, among other topics, he tweeted this message of indignation to his followers:

“You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.”

Their relationship has undoubtedly grown since then when you consider Kim’s continued work with the White House on prison reform and how quickly the Donald stepped in to help A$AP Rocky‘s legal situation in Sweden last year after just one phone call. Kanye clearly has a direct line to the President’s ear and for better or for worse, he seems content on holding on to it.
