We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like Liam Payne and Cheryl are heading full-speed to splitsville.
The former One Direction star has reportedly called in a divorce lawyer amid reports that he and the former X Factor judge have been on the rocks for weeks.
According to The Sun, the 24-year-old’s grueling tour schedule has put a strain on their relationship, leaving the 34-year-old Cheryl at home to take care of their 11-month-old son Bear.

While the pair have held crisis talks in hopes of mending this “rough patch,” sources are speculating that a breakup is right around the corner — especially after Liam was forced to consult a top lawyer to protect his $75 million fortune.
The insider explained:
“Liam has sought some legal advice but he still wants to make it work. It’s sensible to be prepared for all options. With a young son and a number of assets between them there is more to breaking up than just parting ways. He hopes it doesn’t come to it but he’s just being careful.”
The former Girls Aloud singer has a cool $28 million fortune of her own — but the two have a handful of shared assets, including their Surrey, England mansion in which Cheryl lives.
Aside from Liam’s busy schedule, it’s also believed that their 10-year age gap has made things increasingly difficult for the pair. Another source close to the couple revealed:
“There’s a big age gap between them. If they didn’t have Bear then they would have most likely split up by now. But they love their son. And they do care for each other so it’s now a matter of seeing if there’s a final way forward to try and make it work.”
Based on their ever-busy work schedules, all signs point to the clock running out on this May-December romance: Liam has been finishing an album, while Cheryl just signed for a TV talent show, The Greatest Dancer.

Still, friends are holding out hope that the two can somehow save their relationship. Another source added:
“Hopefully they can emerge intact as a couple. But there’s no denying it ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ things are pretty rough at the moment between them. Everyone hopes they can sort things out but, at the same time, it may be too large an obstacle.”
How large? Another source said things haven’t been looking good since the holidays:
“Things haven’t been right since Christmas, they’ve been bickering a lot. It’s make or break for them at the moment, they really need to be together if it is going to work.”
We guess we’ll see where Liam and Cheryl’s priorities lie in the coming weeks, but things sounds quite dire at the moment.
