Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are each superstars in their own way, so what was the reasoning behind joining the American Idol’s season 12 judging panel?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mariah and Nicki signed on to the singing competition because they truly believe it├óΓé¼Γäós the best out there… even if there are haters!
Mariah, being the modest diva she is, revealed that she was approached by multiple shows before picking Idol.
The We Belong Together singer said:
├óΓé¼┼ôI was on the fence about the whole thing. I got approached by all the shows. [Husband Nick Cannon] said I should do it because it├óΓé¼Γäós the top, it├óΓé¼Γäós the cream of the crop. And I felt like, ├óΓé¼╦£Do the show that├óΓé¼Γäós produced massive stars who have had major careers.├óΓé¼Γäó”
And when asked about the stigma surrounding the hip-hop world in relation to singing competitions, Nicki was completely candid.
The Superbass singer told the mag:
├óΓé¼┼ô[There’s] a judgmental culture in hip-hop├óΓé¼┬ªsometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it├óΓé¼Γäós almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I├óΓé¼Γäóm still surprised that I decided to do it.├óΓé¼┬¥
Hmmmm inneresting.
What these two ladies need in their careers is a challenge though, and they will definitely get that on Idol!!
We can’t wait to see what they’ve got to offer in just less than two weeks!!!
