Prince Harry Reveals Why He Got 'In Trouble' With Meghan Markle At Start Of Romance In Surprise Late Show Appearance!

Prince Harry is back on The Late Show!

In a surprise appearance on Tuesday night’s episode of the talk show with Stephen Colbert, which was originally recorded last month when he was promoting his memoir Spare, the 38-year-old answered a list of questions known as “The Colbert Questionert.” Almost immediately, the Duke of Sussex realized there were some language discrepancies between British and American terms he was using — and he admitted this got him into a ton “of trouble” with his now-wife Meghan Markle when they were first dating!

After revealing what his favorite sandwich (AKA “toastie”) is, Harry teased:

“I have to be so careful with these questions because the Americanisms and the Britishisms, it’s very different. Got me and my wife into a lot of trouble in the beginning of our relationship.”

This isn’t the first time he’s gotten candid about this! In Spare, the Invictus Games founder opened up about getting into a messy fight with the Suits alum while he was “sloppily angry” — and it all started over a bit of miscommunication, he wrote:

“Meg said something I took the wrong way. It was partly a cultural difference, partly a language barrier, but I was also just over-sensitive that night. I thought: Why’s she having a go at me? I snapped at her, spoke to her harshly — cruelly. As the words left my mouth, I could feel everything in the room come to a stop.”

After Meghan left the room for about 15 minutes to cool down, he found her in the bedroom and they were able to resume the conversation, with the Archetypes host putting him in his place, he continued:

“She was calm, but said in a quiet, level tone that she would never stand for being spoken to like that. I nodded.”

It wasn’t exactly clear in the excerpt what had led to the argument, but it’s clear whatever the language differences were, they were very problematic!

The rest of the segment was much more laid-back, even when Meghan was concerned. When asked what his favorite smell is, Harry said his “wife.” Colbert then teased the guest about his own wife, Evelyn McGee-Colbert, saying:

“I can’t possibly have more love in my life. Have you met my wife?”

Harry quipped:

“Yes, we met earlier. I have dinner plans with your wife, actually.”

The comedian went on to say “nothing would make her happier” since she’s a huge self-proclaimed “anglophile.” Colbert, on the other hand, doesn’t feel the same way, he joked:

“I got no hostility against you guys because you took my family’s land back in the day in Ireland, no big deal. I’m over it.”
