Queen Elizabeth II 'Hit Hard' By The Passing Of Her Last Corgi!

queen elizabeth corgi died
Queen Elizabeth II has suffered a sad loss.
On Sunday, the last of the monarch’s beloved corgis passed away at the age of 14. As you surely know, the 92-year-old has kept faithful pups as her companions since she was a young girl.

Willow the corgi descended from Elizabeth’s original dog Susan, so the passing certainly marks the end of an era. Back when she was a young princess, Elizabeth was introduced to the corgi breed by her father King George VI. The Windsor family’s OG pup was a corgi, named Dookie, who joined the royals in 1933.
On her 18th birthday, Elizabeth was gifted Susan — and the rest is history. Willow’s death comes over a year after the Queen’s other beloved dog Holly died at the royal residence in Balmoral, Scotland. According to Daily Mail, Willow was put down due to a cancer-related illness.
Unsurprisingly, the Queen has been “hit hard” by Willow’s death. On the dog’s sad passing, royal reporter Richard Kay noted:

“It really does feel like the end of an era.”

A courtier shared a similar sentiment, as they told Kay:

“Willow represents a significant thread running through the Queen’s life from her teenage years to her 90s. To think that the last one has gone is something of a milestone.”

So sad. However, the Queen isn’t left completely without pets. It’s said that the Windsor matriarch adopted a dog named Whisper after the death of one of the gamekeepers at the Sandringham estate. She’s also said to have two corgi-dachshund mixes, named Vulcan and Candy.
Nonetheless, we mourn Willow’s passing alongside the Queen. All dogs go to heaven, right???
