“PH: Your career has spanned for over three decades. What do you feel was your career-defining moment?
RM: Two great moments of my career were when I got my first Grammy and releasing my book #Me.
PH: What do you think is the secret to your longevity in the music industry?
RM: Persistence, surround yourself with the right people and to be in the moment with my eyes wide open.
PH: How has fatherhood impacted your music? Do your sons express any musical interest?
RM: My kids love music but they have inspired me to create/write children’s book, which trust me, it was not in my plans 10 years ago.
PH: What went into choosing the first single from this new album?
RM: Now days social media helps me so much deciding what needs to be released. Although I follow my instincts I believe in focus groups.
PH: Your 1999 self-titled album went on to become one of the best-selling albums in pop music history. How much pressure do you feel to keep raising the bar for yourself?
RM: I live the moment.
PH: What’s your song-writing process like?
RM: It is never the same, you just don’t know when its going to hit you. You just gotta be open.
PH: Where’s been the most random place you’ve gotten inspiration for a song?
RM: In the middle of a traffic jam.
PH: Do you find it easier or more difficult to record a Spanish album?
RM: I’ve recorded in many difference languages since the beginning of my career. Whatever it takes to spread the message out there.
PH: Are there plans for another English album?
RM: I’m working on a few things in English at the moment. I’m sure you will enjoy it, soon to be announced.”
