One Direction Might Not Return After Year Off?! Simon Cowell's Latest Comments Have Us Worried!

Earlier this week, millions of One Direction fans cried themselves to sleep after it was announced that the chart-topping boy band would be taking a year-long hiatus next year!
While most are upset by this news that seems like the beginning of the group’s end, their boss Simon Cowell promises that time off is just what the boys need!

The X Factor judge, who assembled 1D back in 2010, revealed that he has known the hiatus was coming.
Simon explained to press at the X Factor launch:

“I’ve known for a while that they were going to take this year off. They had to because of their workload. I did what I’ve always done with the guys and said you make your own decisions and I hope you stay together, but you’ve got to want to do it yourself so they’re smart guys, they’ll work it out.”

The former American Idol judge seems to think there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. While he hopes the boys reunite after their time apart, he admits that it has to be a decision they make on their own. He continued:

“I hope so, but like I said, it’s not going to be because of any pressure from me. It really has to be, like we said in the beginning, this is an opportunity, you won it, and I’ve always had that attitude with them. They’re nice guys and they’re loyal so it’ll be fine.”

The 55-year-old highlighted how 1D’s mega-success and crazy schedule have taken it’s toll, adding:

“Look, even though they’re young, that is a gruelling schedule and after a while I could see they were exhausted, so when they said, ‘How do you feel about it?’ I said, ‘Do whatever you want.’ Having a year off is going to be a healthy thing.”

What a great mentor!
We can only imagine how the band’s crazy workload over the past five years has drained them out, so it seems like this time off is just what they need to refresh and come back with even better material down the line!
We hope!
