Talk about development hell!
A big-screen adaptation of the ’60s TV classic The Man From U.N.C.L.E. has long been rumored to be in the works, with talent like Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney‘s names attached at various points, but it had FINALLY seemed like production would be getting off the ground when Guy Ritchie signed on to direct and Tom Cruise agreed to star as Napoleon Solo!
However, the actor has reportedly thrown a wrench into the mix by dropping out at the last minute!
Sources close to the situation reveal that his reasons for leaving are purely due to scheduling conflicts, as he’s set to begin work on Mission: Impossible 5 before the end of the year, and therefore, would need to get going on this one relatively soon if he were to be accomodate both projects!
Sadly, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, so he’s out!
But hey! Once you’ve seen one Tom Cruise spy/action movie, you’ve seen them all, right?!
And apparently, the sexy Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer is still signed, so maybe all hope for this one isn’t lost just yet!
