Wendy Williams Defends 'Frail' Scooter Photo -- And Opens Up More About That Sober House Life!

Wendy Williams may not be willing to talk about her marriage problems, but she’s opening up about her journey to sobriety.
And of course there are some problems made worse by being a celebrity…
Specifically the tabloids characterizing Williams as “frail” or incapable because she’s in a sober living facility.

As she returned to her show on Monday, the daytime diva defended the system and the people who are benefitting from it:

“The great thing about being in the sober house is the people that I live with… We are people with functioning careers who just want to check ourselves and get down with that 12-step.”

And it isn’t just TV stars! Wendy teased:

“There are people in there with prestigious careers and degrees. You wouldn’t know us walking the street, but we are that.”

Wendy complained:

“There’s such a stigma to substance abuse. Everyone thinks it’s going to be the bum on the corner or whatnot. And you, if you’re watching, if it’s you… I’m the face of it. How about you? Sometimes you just need to go someplace and get at one with your sobriety and your 12 steps.”

What do YOU think about the picture Wendy paints of a sober living facility? Not how you thought of it?
Now back to the photo that’s been going around over the weekend… Wendy had a whole story to tell about that.
She decided to go camping with her sober housemates in upstate New York — she had to do something she wasn’t comfortable with. And speaking of comfort, Wendy wanted to make clear this was not “glamping.”

“I’m thinking were going over to Ellis Island to one of those glamp grounds, where there’s a toilet inside, you know, with caviar for a midnight snack and you get a butler to roast your marshmallows.”

Nope! She said the place they stayed at had “no running water” and was in the middle of nowhere,

“We went up there and the Wal-Mart is the social place. When I’m away from the show, sometimes I do take selfies. Sometimes.
At 4 o’clock in the morning, I’m sitting in this scooter. There are a lot of scooters. The staff let me and my girls use the scooters because there was nobody there.
I mean, there were people there, but like the townies, not that many. Families and stuff.
So I’m taking pictures with people, and there’s some people I’m saying, ‘I don’t necessarily wanna get too close to you,’ but I don’t tell him that. I said take a picture and I’m gonna act like I’m shopping.”

And the picture, of course, is Internet history.

OK, we have to say it. We’re all for celebs letting people take pics, but 4 in the morning?? Gurl, what are you doing letting people take pics of you at 4 in the morning?
Of COURSE people are making assumptions about your health! No one looks hale and hearty at that hour!
She continued:

“This became a blog sensation over the weekend, so I’m here to correct. One of the best things about being truthful to yourself and having your own show is that I can come and dispel my own rumors.”

Are y’all buying Wendy’s version? She concluded:

“Do I look frail to you? I do the Hot Topics, I am the Hot Topic. It’s fabulous.”

Unless it’s about marriage problems, we guess.
Anyway, see Wendy’s complete story behind the pic (below)!
