And the performance had extra special meaning for both the competitor AND judge Jennifer Lopez.
In a video package that ran before her live performance, La'Porsha revealed that she had been in an abusive relationship that she managed to end shortly before beginning on Idol.
Then, when she came out with her performance this week, the emotions ran over the entire room.

On Sunday, Liberty Ross and Jimmy Iovine tied the knot in a star studded affair in Beverly Hills, CA. In case you forgot, the twosome announced their engagement back in September after first being linked in 2013. LOVES it!
It's said the duo exchanged vows at 6:30 p.m. on Valentine's Day at David Geffen's Beverly Hills mansion. How romantic!
Not to mention, what better way for the music industry vet to kick off the Grammys?! LOLz!
Apparently, Mr. Iovine's A-list guests were asked to wear red in honor of the holiday — including Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West, Oprah Winfrey, Mary J. Blige, Tom Hanks, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Pharrell, and more!
In fact, Miz Winfrey took to Instagram to flaunt her wedding look (below) with longtime love Stedman Graham.
Flanked by her dapperly dressed husband, Kendu Isaacs, the songstress looked so hot in this sheer black number. Between a tease of cleavage and sheer panels, we can't get enough of the fashion choice.
Mary completed the look with a chic banged bob, smokey eyes, and nude lips.
Good luck tonight, lady!

Neither broadcast came close to 2013's The Sound of Music Live starring Carrie Underwood! Broadcast TV's first live musical in years scored a 4.6 rating and a whopping 18.6 million viewers!

NBC did it again with another live, televised production of a broadway classic! Plenty of celebs were cast in the highly-publicized production, including Uzo Aduba as Glinda the Good Witch, Mary J. Blige as the Wicked Witch of the West, Ne-Yo as the Tin Man, and Queen Latifah as The Wiz.
And while it seems like at least half of Hollywood starred in the show, spectator celebs like Andy Cohen and Kristin Chenoweth took to Twitter to sound off on how their peers — and newcomer Shanice Williams — did in the musical!
