After a jury awarded the family of the late Marvin Gaye with a verdict of $7.4 million in their copyright infringement suit over similarities to the song Got To Give It Up, a judge has only mostly upheld the ruling.
While there won't be a new trial as Robin and Pharrell's legal team requested, the judge did lessen the total money owed to $5.3 million.
Williams has the most to be Happy about; he was ruled as only a "practical partner" to Thicke and liable only for his share of profits. He went from having to pay $1.6 mil to $357,000.
The judge also denied the Gaye family's request to block Blurred Lines from further distribution, instead giving them 50% of future songwriting royalties.
While this is somewhat good news, Robin and Pharrell still attest the song shouldn't be ruled as copyright infringement at all, and many in the music industry agree.
Could this set a scary precedent for "homage" sounds? What do YOU think??

The music giant announced its new app, Apple Music at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on Monday — and it has it ALL.
The app's got streaming, radio, and downloading, but believe it or not, there's MORE! Apple Music will also include a feature called Connect, which incorporates a social media element, allowing artists to connect with their fans by posting content through their own profiles.
